Hale
|
A band hailing from the Philippines, composed of Champ Lui Pio (vocals and rhythm guitars), Roll Martinez (backing vocals and lead guitars), Sheldon Gellada (bass guitars) and Omnie Saroca (drums and percussion). They rose to prominence with their song Broken Sonnet. It was first featured on Full Volume, a compilation of songs from up-and-coming local bands. They are one of the most popular acts in the Philippines in 2005.
The group is frequently associated with similar acts such as Cueshe and Spongecola under the label "pogi rock." This term refers to bands who depend more on the supposedly good looks of the members than the actual musicianship itself.
The vocalist, Champ Lui-Pio, has received criticism for his subpar vocals. Some people complain about his nasal style of singing and his occasional voice-cracking. Another shortcoming is the difficulty that the listeners encounter in trying to decipher what he is actually singing onstage.
Hale, the band that promises to highlight their musical versatility and excellent vocalism in alternative rock genre and yet emanates a very sad undertone that they describe as melodious drama. |
