Bio
There are two bands named OLD.

First: James Plotkin and Alan Dubin's OLD began as a tongue-in-cheek grindcore band called Old Lady Drivers, but by the release of the first OLD full-length, 1992's "Lo Flux Tube", the project had grown into something far more substantial. "Lo Flux Tube" also featured ex-Nirvana member Jason Everman on bass and a guest appearance by John Zorn. It was a wild and totally unfashionable fusion of metal, industrial and psychedelia which is probably largely responsible for AllMusic's description of Plotkin as "the Frank Zappa of death metal".

Second:

The German band Old was formed in 2003 by Reaper (vocals), Doomhammer (guitar/drums) and Horus (bass guitar). The band was born to be a dedication to the old school Black Metal sound of the 80s and early 90s, bands like Celtic Frost/Hellhammer, Slaughter, Bathory, Possessed, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Venom, Sodom, Destruction etc. were always present in their hearts. In 2004 Old recorded their "Blood Skull" rehearsal tape, originally limited to 50 copies, but in cause of the great feedback from all around the world they raised the amount of tapes. They kept going as a pure rehearsal band 'til they recorded the "Nocturnal Ritual" 7" in summer 2004. In the beginning of 2005 Old also signed on Tyrant Syndicate Records a sub label witch is under the wings of Peaceville Records, so they recorded their first full length album "Down With The Nails" in the end of summer 2005.

- Sadly OLD were probably just too eclectic for their own good -- those who would be attracted by the sonic experimentalism would most likely be repelled by Dubin's death-industrial growl -- and OLD's second proper album, 1993's "The Musical Dimension of Sleastak" (by which time the group was a duo, Everman having departed), disappeared almost without trace, partly a result of Earache's apparent reluctance to promote the release in any way. A shame, because it's magnificent: as fierce a beast as their debut, but with an even broader noise/electronic palette and a prog-rock-esque sense of structure. + Old is not to be confused with American James Plotkin's project known as O.L.D. (Earache Records)

- As if to force their eclecticism down listeners' throats with even more violence, the same year OLD released an album of gabba-techno remixes and turntable experiments, "Hold on to Your Face", with contributions from Mick Harris and Ultraviolence. +

- OLD's final album, 1995's "Formula", saw the outfit heading into increasingly electronic and ambient territory (there are parallels with Scorn's progress from "Vae Solis" through "Gyral"). "Formula"'s impressive, glacial soundscapes prefigure not only Plotkin's subsequent work with Flux but also Justin Broadrick's post-Godflesh project, Jesu, while its kaleidoscopic effects and haunting melodic hooks rival those of My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields. +

- Plotkin and Dubin briefly played in black dirge band Shadowcast before becoming half of Khanate. Plotkin's other work includes Lotus Eaters with Stephen O'Malley and Isis's Aaron Turner, Phantomsmasher (with Speedranch), and various ambient collaborations with the likes of Mick Harris, Brent Gutzeit and Mark Spybey (ex-Zoviet France). He has also recorded with KK Null (from Japanese extreme metal outfit Zeni Geva) and Namanax.
