There are by now 8 groups called "Panacea". The first is Mathis Mootz (born 19 August 1976) is a prolific German electronic musician and DJ from Germany. Mootz is best known as The Panacea (until 2005, simply as Panacea), his drum and bass stage name and main musical project, and as m² (pronounced “Squaremeter”), his dark ambient side project and alter-ego.
The second one is a hip-hop group out of D.C., the third is a pop/rock band, the fourth- a folk-dance band, the fifth is a German students rock band, the sixth is a Polish power violence - screamo - hardcore band, the seventh is a jazz band, the eight is a short lived punk band from VA.
1. Born August 19, 1976 in Wetzlar, Germany, Mootz served an apprenticeship in classical music and was a member of the boy's choir of Windsbach. After studying music engineering at the SAE Institute, Mootz worked with the experimental hip hop/illbient label Chrome, an offshoot of Force Inc Music Works. Over the course of several drum and bass albums and many singles, and as A&R manager for Chrome, later renamed Position Chrome, Panacea became known for pushing the bounds of the drum and bass genre into industrial and hardcore territory, and for energetic DJ sets which fused these genres in a live setting. With his side project m², he explored a more minimal side of electronic music, first in the realm of clicks 'n' cuts, and later in the dark ambient territory pioneered by the likes of Lustmord. Mootz lives and produces in Sommerhausen, a countryside town near Würzburg.
2. Panacea hip-hop Panacea, comprised of producer K-Murdock and MC Raw Poetic, blend Native Tongues-inspired beats with warm major chords and soul samples and add smart, conscious rhymes about life, love, and of course, hip-hop. Their debut album 'Ink Is My Drink' released on Rawkus showed up in late 2006. Their sophmore album 'The Scenic Route' was released in 2007. Panacea is highly intertwined with Restoring Poetry in Music, which acts as their live band.
3. Panacea pop/rock Panacea is also an Australian pop/rock band influenced by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Radiohead, Gomez, Pixies, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pink Floyd.
4. Panacea folk-dance Panacea is also an almost surprisingly authentic-sounding Berkeley California purist folk group specializing in traditional European dance music. Their album is available on Magnatune.
5.
