Quiet
|
There is more than one artist with this name:
1) "quiet" (English translation) is a Japanese indie rock band formed in Northern Kyushu, Japan during the summer of 2001. The band originally started in 1992 when Rue Burch (vocals, guitar) met Rich Lee (background vocals, bass) in Ellensburg, Washington. In 1997 Rue and Rich ended up in Kyushu, Japan and decided to start a band in 1998, with drums and other guitars covered by a number of folks who come and went. It was not until 2000 when they met up with Tres Goodman (Goodearl) (background vocals, drums, percussion) a fellow American and drummer who also happened to live in Kyushu. The band cements and calls itself "bleach" after the first nirvana album, does a bunch of gigs throughout northern Kyushu, but changes their name to "quiet" so as to avoid confusion with the Okinawan female punk band in 2001.
"quiet" has two studio albums, including one recorded in makeshift studio in Rich's traditional Japanese house in the mountains of Yabakei, Oita Prefecture, Japan followed by the 2002 recording of one of their many Tropi Coco Cafe live sessions at the famous Tropicocs in Yanagigaura-Usa, Oita Prefecture, Japan. Rue has since headed to grad school on some remote island paradise; Rich joined "Nanbanjin" for a minute while their bassist left for sabbatical to study ESL teaching in Budapest; Tres became Nanbanjin's International tour manager for their 2006 Nanbanjin Take Back the UK World Tour and interpreting for a Japanese automotive company.
2) QUIET was formed at the tail-end of 2005 when close friends Charlie Margiotta (Enthralled), Brian Logan (Enthralled), Mike Neumeister (Into the Dementia), and Jake Horowitz (formerly of Decimate) were inspired to experiment with drone/ambient music. Taking influences from Sunn O))), Growing, Earth, Boris, Isis, Hyatari, Methadrone, and a slew of others, QUIET blend minimalistic drone with post-rock and funeral doom, effectively generating melancholic textures, depressive soundscapes, and a torturous atmosphere. The band's lineup of 2 guitarists and 2 bassists, coupled with their usage of peculiar instruments such as theremin, help define their unique sound.
QUIET plan to begin playing shows in 2007, in and around the New York City area. They are currently in the process of creating their first recording, which will be available ASAP.
3) Quiet is also a melancholic pop/ rock band from Finland. |
