Ultra
|
There are several bands with this name:
1) Ultra is a hip-hop superduo consisting of NYC rappers Kool Keith and Tim Dog.
2) Ultra (also recording as Rider) is also an English pop band, which was most successful in the late 1990s.
3) Russian Music
4) Trance producer or a group
5) Southern rock band from the mid 70's with Galen Niles and Larry McGuffin on twin lead guitar ala Thin Lizzy and Wishbone Ash.
6) Once an H.N.A.S. related band up until their 4th release, the USA counterpart continued on, still playing experimental noise industrial and ambient drones. Ultra creates deeply anxious collages of sound and voice in a mixture of fear and beauty.
at 1) ===== The original line-up of Ultra consisted of James Hearn b. 19 June 1976 (vocals), Michael Harwood b. 12 December 1975 (Guitar) Jon O'Mahony b. 10 August 1973 (Drums), and Nick Keynes b. 3 May 1974 (bass).
They were signed to Warner's EastWest label. In 1998 they released their first single, Say You Do, co-written by band members, which reached #11 in the UK. Their next single, Say it Once, only charted at #16 in the UK, but became a#1 hit in Italy. Over the next two years they had several singles in the UK, Italian and Spanish top 20, and in 1999, their debut album, Ultra, entered the UK top 40 at #37. Despite selling over a million records worldwide, the band lost their contract before recording their second album, as their record company was in financial difficulties. They were offered several deals from other record companies after leaving Warners, but nothing suitable materialised. The band split up in 2001.
In 2005 the four original members of the band reunited to write and record their second studio album, The Sun Shines Brighter, which also features songs written by former member Alistair Griffin, (who provides guest vocals on one of the tracks). Producer credits on the album include Ian Stanley (who produced their first album), Claudio Guidetti (Laura Pausini, Eros Ramazotti), and Ash Howes (Texas, Blue). This was released on October 2, 2006.
at 2) ===== Ultra was a rap duo consisting of Kool Keith (formerly of rap group, Ultramagnetic MC's) and Tim Dog who had previously appeared on past Ultramagnetic songs, such as A Chorus Line. They only released one album, Big Time, which consisted of a large amount of disses towards fellow rappers.
