There are five bands called Zone:
A) J-pop band from Japan (disbanded); B) Midem 2005 award winning nu-jazz artist from Italy Enzo Torregrossa (AKA ZONE) (www.myspace.com/zonemadrugada) C) A melodic thrash/new metal band from The Netherlands (www.zoneband.nl), and D) zone A hardcore band that is also from Japan. E) A band from Wales combining a wide variety of musical influences (industrial, ambient electro, experimental, avant-garde) into their own eclectical style. http://www.potentia-zone.com/
A) ZONE from Japan was a J-pop band started in Sapporo, Japan in 1999, who went on to become a hit in 2000 with their single Good Days. Their most famous song is Secret Base ~Kimi ga kureta mono~. ZONE is categorized in a new genre called the "bandol" (band + idol) and was started by Studio Runtime. ZONE started off as Takayo plus seven other dancers, then was eventually reduced to four members. After becoming popular, the four girls learned to play their own instruments to complement their singing and dancing. In late 2003, Takayo announced her departure from ZONE. She was replaced by Tomoka, the last member cut from the band before they made up the "original" four.
However, the band has disbanded since March 31, 2005. As 3 of the members would be graduating from high school, they made their decision on a positive disbanding rather than an upsetting disbanding. The reason for disbanding is so that the members can choose their own path in life. The Spring Tour in 2005 was their last performance together as a band, the final song being Secret Base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~.
B) Zone (nu-jazz - Italy) started his career as a bass player sharing the stage with Dizzie Gillespie, Chick Corea and went on to collect a few awards such as a Golden Globe award for SUD (by Gabriele Salvatore) as well an award for innovation in 2005 at MIDEM (the world largest and most important music industry fair).
C) Zone from The Netherlands was founded somewhere in the winter of 1999 under the name: "Mental Illness". At that point the band consisted of Ramon Smeets, Jelmer Terwindt and Andre Zwaan. After approximately six months, Andre switched from guitar to bass. Not long after that, Eko Santosa joined the band as their lead singer. Now the band was complete and started to become more serious. They began to write their own songs and after a while, started doing some small gigs.
In 2002 Ditmar Henkel joined the band as their second guitarist. His influences were very different from the other band members and this caused the band to change its sound from a pretty standard new-metal band, to a more aggressive, melodic thrash/new metal band that they are at this point. As from 2002 the band started to perform more and more. And with their explosive energetic live act they managed to transform many audiences from a calm group of people into a boiling moshing crowd. Gradually, they build up a reputation of a great heavy live band and they played in numerous places all over The Netherlands.
In late 2004 guitarist Jelmer Terwindt left Zone due to personal reasons. However, Zone came out fresh and clean and released their third demo "Conflict" in february of 2006, introducing a bit more melody into their sound.
E) This is from their website: Zone was formed in 1988, by Andrew Cadmore & Chris Brandrick, almost alone amongst contemporary Welsh bands to explore the legacy of pioneer and visionary Velvet John Cale. Zone’s eclectic musical influences range from the intense industrial music of Throbbing Gristle, the ambient electronics of Brian Eno & early Tangerine Dream, to the experimental and avant-garde of Karlheinz Stockhausuen, Fred Frith (Henry Cow & Art Bears), Faust, & Can. On occasion gothic, forever ethereal, Zone’s music weaves across time into world music of infinite style and express wholeness. Ever since Zone’s formation, Potentia has been the platform and label for all of Zone’s work. Since 1991 Zone’s musical releases have been handled through World Serpent Distribution, until their unfortunate demise in mid 2004, haven to numbers of radical modern artists including "Coil" "Carter Tutti (formerly Chris and Cosey)", "Nurse With Wound" & "Current 93". Eschewing convention and compromise, always seductive and compassionate, Zone’s isolated and deceptively primitive approach to recording music has in itself become the third mind within Zone, where the whole is far more than the sum of the parts. Zone’s work has always been a passion, never a profession. Albums: Sword of the Sun, Born of Fire, The Divine Simplicity, Angel of Freedom, Alien Nature.
