There are multiple artists called Blaze:
1) Blaze are an electronica band formed in 1984 in New Jersey, USA. It was formed by Josh Milan, Kevin Hedge and Chris Herbert, when Herbert introduced Milan, a member of his church choir to Hedge, his childhood friend. Ironically, Herbert was the one who left the band in 1991, leaving Milan and Hedge to keep working together. Their output consists mainly of house music tracks with heavy gospel, soul and afrobeat influences (sometimes referred to as Gospel house). When the band started, Herbert was the singer, with Milan playing the piano and Hedge working production. After Herbert left, both Hedge and Milan started to share production duties, vocals and playing most of the instruments in their tracks and albums. They achieved notoriety with their remix of Lisa Stansfield’s “People Hold On” in 1989, after signing for the Motown label. Blaze released their first LP, 25 Years Later, in 1990, after which Herbert decided to move to a more R&B-oriented career, while the two remaining members invested in the emerging club culture, opening their own nightclub, Shelter. In 1995, they scored their first big international production success, with De’Lacy’s “Hideaway”, which was remixed by Deep Dish. Since then, Blaze has released three more albums, alongside a few scattered compilations of earlier productions and works and countless singles. They also began working with other well-known names such as Little Louie Vega, Barbara Tucker, Jody Watley and Full Intention. They’re best known to modern audiences by their singles featuring Palmer Brown on vocals, the oft-remixed “My Beat” and the tribute anthem “I Remember House”. Blaze’s most recent album, released in 2005, is a mix compilation title, “Found Love” featuring the hit title track, “Found Love” by Blaze.
2) When the Mid-West meets the Dirty South, things get explosive. Just ask BrownWave entertainment’s debut artist Blaze. Influenced by artists such as Jay Z, Three 6 Mafia, and Ludacris, this St. Louis native has a flow as melodious as Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and as energetic as Busta Rhymes.
“I’m from ‘the show me state’, you show me a studio, and a hot track and I’ll show you a hit!” says Blaze.
Rapping since early childhood, 21 year-old blaze has won numerous talent shows, showcases and street battles. In February 2004 he went down in the history books of Belmont University as the first rap artist to win their annual “Others Showcase.” Blaze gained the attention of many industry executives with his performance and used the opportunity to open the door for negotiations with major labels. In February 2005, he successful defended his reign as champion by winning Belmont’s first ever “Urban Showcase” in a unanimous decision by all the judges.
DJ Tazz of KXBT “The all New Beat 104.3” in Austin, TX and judge from “Urban Showcase” said, “From start to finish, Blaze is non-stop entertainment!! He’s one of the best performers I’ve seen in a long time.”
This young MC is no stranger to the rap game. He appeared on the smash hit single “Warfare” (with members of his underground group ‘Lyrikal Warfare’) from the album “Back to Tha Playaz Ball” by the Underground legend, King Pin Skinny Pimp. On this cut, Blaze exchanged venomous vocals over a barrage of booming baseline beats leaving the track on fire! As a member of Lyrical Warfare, Blaze and his partners in rhyme released 6 independent albums, moving over 25 thousand units over a two year period.
“His work ethic is amazing. He goes into the studio at 10 p.m. and won’t come out until noon the next day, eats a little lunch, takes care of any business, takes a nap, then right back to the studio!” says manager, Kenneth “Big Business” Brown.
“Because Blaze is so creative and I’m creative, I produced over 60 beats for his debut album. Big Business and I consider this our debut as well because Blaze is signed to our production company, so lyrically and production wise this album is going to be all hits!!”, says Knowledge.
