Kalafina is a Japanese girl group produced by composer Yuki Kajiura most known for performing all seven Kara no Kyoukai theme songs. (Kajiura also scored the anime movies’ background music.) Established in late 2007, Kalafina consists of Wakana Otaki (大滝若菜 · FictionJunction WAKANA), Keiko Kubota (窪田啓子 · FictionJunction KEIKO), Maya, and Hikaru, who were all selected via audition by Yuki Kajiura herself. The group’s identities were initially kept secret for several months until its four member line-up was fully revealed in spring 2008. Kalafina also contributed background vocals to the Kara no Kyoukai soundtracks.
Debut single Oblivious (first three Kara no Kyoukai themes) was released on January 23, 2008. Re/oblivious, a remix mini-album, followed exactly three months after their official debut. Kalafina’s second single (and first double a-side) sprinter / ARIA consist of the fifth and fourth Kara no Kyoukai theme songs respectively, along with an instrumental version of “oblivious”. Their third single fairytale will include the sixth Kara no Kyoukai theme, a non-anime tie-in song (“serenato”), and instrumental version of “sprinter”. They will release their first album called "Seventh Heaven", consists of 13 tracks (featuring the 7 Kara no Kyoukai theme songs) and single "Lacrimosa" (Kuroshitsuji ED2 Theme) on March, 2009.
